Family stories can take many twists and turns, and sometimes things don’t always go the way we expect. Recently, an El Paso woman was astonished to recognize her grandson in the Heart Gallery of El Paso! Due to many factors, she was estranged from her own child and had no idea that her grandson was in foster care, let alone legally free for adoption. Because of the Heart Gallery, she was able to get in contact with his case management team. Extended family is in the process of adopting him as well as his siblings.
Heart Galleries are a powerful storytelling tool to help raise community awareness about children in foster care who are waiting for adoption. The project works toward the following goals:
- Increasing the number of families who foster and adopt
- Decreasing child wait time for adoption
- Decreasing the number of children placed outside their communities
- Decreasing the number of youth who age out of foster care
Heart Galleries are bringing Texas children together with families who can help them thrive.
