In late January, HGTX traveled to Tyler to meet with The Fostering Collective and the Andrews Center, the region’s Local Mental Health Authority (LMHA), for a focused conversation on strengthening partnership and improving access to services for post-permanency families.

The meeting centered on a shared goal: making it easier for families who have finalized adoption or guardianship to understand, access, and navigate mental health supports when they need them. Together, the group explored how Heart Galleries, community partners, and the LMHA can work more seamlessly to create a clearer pathway for families—one that reduces confusion, minimizes delays, and prioritizes dignity and trust.

The conversation was both honest and productive. Partners discussed current barriers families may face, including gaps in awareness, referral processes, and timing of support, while also identifying strengths already present in the region. By naming what’s working and where alignment can improve, the group was able to assess opportunities for collaboration that feel realistic, responsive, and grounded in the lived experiences of families.

Just as important, the visit strengthened relationships across organizations. There was a strong sense of shared responsibility and openness to continued collaboration, reinforcing that long-term stability for families depends on coordinated systems, not siloed efforts.

This meeting marked an important step forward in building sustainable partnerships that support families beyond permanency. As next steps take shape, Heart Galleries of Texas looks forward to continuing this work alongside The Fostering Collective and the Andrews Center—ensuring post-permanency families in the Tyler region know they are supported and not navigating services alone.
