Earlier this year, we conducted a post-adopt needs assessment aimed at surveying Texas caregivers and providers about post-permanency services in their respective regions.
We’re thrilled to share an inspiring update about the impact of our post-adoption and post-permanency funding. This initiative continues to address the urgent needs of adoptive families across Texas, and the results are both heartwarming and eye-opening.
One of our incredible grant recipients, Lee Ann Lefevre, MA, LPC, held her first post-adoption parent support group last month, and the turnout was astonishing—30 parents attended! This remarkable response highlights both the immense need for support and the power of community.
Lee Ann’s dedication doesn’t stop there. In addition to leading monthly support groups and planning two symposiums, she has opened six private counseling slots for families in need. To date, 19 families have sought her help since hearing about her grant award! Despite the overwhelming demand, Lee Ann has embraced every opportunity to serve.
The challenges in Texas’ Panhandle, where resources for post-adoption families are scarce, make her work even more vital. While the grant funding was expected to last a year, the immense need means it will likely only cover five months. Yet, Lee Ann has committed to continuing her services for the full year—an extraordinary testament to her passion and determination.
Here’s what some of the parents from her support group shared:
- “I feel like I will be able to talk to my kid in a new way that will help heal our relationship.”
- “It’s so great to know I’m not alone! I feel hopeful for the first time in a long time.”
- “This will help our family’s overall well-being. Thank you for offering this invaluable service to adoptive families in the Panhandle.”
Stories like these reaffirm why funding for post-adoption support is so critical. Together, we are building a network of resources to strengthen families, promote healing, and ensure every child thrives in their forever home.
Thank you to everyone who has advocated for and supported this initiative. The impact is undeniable, and the gratitude from families served is profound.
Let’s continue to make a difference, one family at a time!
