AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) – Foster children across the Panhandle are receiving new bicycles as local organizations teamed up for the Bikes for Kids campaign.

Leathernecks Confederation MC (LCMC), the organization behind the Bikes for Kids campaign, has been working since early summer to make that goal a reality.

State Ambassador for LCMC Cujo says the Bikes for Kids campaign began as a dream shared by one organizer’s brother, Rocky, two years ago and later grew into a coordinated effort across the Panhandle.

After months of planning, fundraising kicked off in June with a goal of purchasing 400 bicycles for children in foster care throughout Region 1.

“In Region 1, which is from Lubbock to the top of the Panhandle, we have almost 1,700 kids who are in foster care currently. Of that 1,700, we have over 300 who are currently waiting for an adoptive home,” said Amy Crowley, director of Heart Gallery of the Panhandle Plains.

By partnering with local nonprofits across the region, organizers were able to reach hundreds of children in foster care throughout the Panhandle.

Amarillo Angels, Heart Gallery of the Panhandle Plains, Toys for Tots, Boom Adventures and more contributed through fundraising, planning, and community outreach.

“It’s just a dream of mine. I couldn’t come together without all of us working together in community and unity and bringing this many organizations,” said Rocky, retired LCMC. “Whether it’s motorcycle clubs, associations, or organizations, Christian Unity, it works as a team and I couldn’t have a better team.”

The organizations involved plan to bring the campaign back next year, with hopes of getting even more community members and organizations involved to reach even more children across the Panhandle.
